Brief History

Daubeny Cooper & Company was established in 1922 by Dr. jur. Daubeny B. Cooper, who served as solicitor general and acting attorney general of Liberia during President William V.S. Tubman’s administration.  Daubeny Cooper & Company was re-constituted in the early 1990s as Cooper & Co. (Counselors-at-Law).  Our lawyers have represented Liberia’s largest mining concession, international institutions, insurance companies, banks, airlines, and other businesses. 

 

Our Managing Partner served as President of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce.  The firm ceased traditional legal services in Liberia during the Liberian civil war.  With authorization from the Liberian Minister of Justice, Cooper & Co. collaborated with Liberia Law Experts, Inc., and published Liberia’s statutory laws in five volumes.  These volumes titled the Liberian Codes Revised are the prime source for judges, lawyers, and researchers on Liberian law.  Our Senior Counsel associated with now Liberian Supreme Court Justice Philip A.Z. Banks III, in co-authoring and publishing the seminal work on Liberian corporate laws - Liberia: World Corporate Domicile.
